Introduction

Unlike GhostSurf's other features, which protect your privacy by keeping information from reaching the Internet, GhostWipe protects your privacy by preventing others from seeing information stored on your computer. You can start GhostWipe by choosing its menu item from GhostSurf's tray menu.

Choosing What to Clear

In the "Elements to Clear" box, you can select and deselect data elements you would like GhostWipe to clear from your computer. As shown, GhostWipe can get rid of your web history, your temporary web files (which also reflect the sites you've visited), site cookies, and other elements that are not Internet-related (recycle bin, recent documents menu, etc).

Each element you select will be cleared when GhostWipe runs. You should be careful when selecting these items--if GhostWipe clears your temporary web files, your web browser will need to download some images from the Internet again. If GhostWipe clears your cookies, you may need to re-login to websites you visit. Although these elements compromise privacy, they also often serve a useful purpose on your computer.

GhostWipe contains an element "GhostWipe internals" that will clear the Privacy Control Center's list of websites (that you've visited). This item is included here only for the convenience of those who often clear the Privacy Control Center's list manually; it is not meant to imply that you need to clear GhostSurf's internal settings to maintain your privacy. In fact, GhostSurf aggressively protects all the information inside it; and if you use password protection, you should feel confident that no one can get at your list of sites unless he knows your password. If, for some reason, you don't want to use password protection or you just generally feel more comfortable using this option, you are welcome to. But it is not intended, like the others are, to protect your privacy; GhostSurf is already protecting your privacy by encrypting all its settings.
